MARCH 3RD, 4TH, 11TH & 12TH, 2027
Adapted by Dwayne Hartford
From the book by Kate DiCamilloEdward Tulane is a vain, self-absorbed china rabbit, adored by a little girl named Abilene--and incapable of loving her back. When he is accidentally lost at sea, Edward begins an extraordinary journey beyond his control. Passed from hand to hand over many years, he encounters grieving couples, wandering outsiders, lonely children, and unlikely caretakers, each leaving a mark on his silent, fragile life. Through loss, longing, and connection, Edward learns what it truly means to love and to risk loving again. Based on Kate DiCamillo’s beloved novel, this lyrical adaptation is a theatrical tour de force for a small ensemble of actors and musicians

Red Herring Puppets
Ugly Duckling: August 29, 2025
The Barking Mouse and The Blue Frog: October 17, 2025
Aesop’s Fables: March 20, 2026We’re offering matinees of three puppet shows: The Ugly Duckling and TheBarking Mouse and The Blue Frog in the fall, and Aesop’s Fables in the spring.
The Ugly Duckling is an original musical version of the classic folktale where we are reminded that real ugliness is not about appearance, but it can be the mean and prejudiced behavior of others.
The bilingual tale ofThe Barking Mouse wittily champions the value of learning a second language. The Blue Frog is the Mayan version of the Legend of Chocolate. It is a double feature with original music by Diana Olivares and Salma Diaz, from Las Azaleas, an all-female mariachi band based in Tucson.
Aesop’s Fables was the winner of puppetry’s highest honor for Red Herring’s original rhymed adaptation of the classic tales covering topics of bullying, selfishness, competition, ingenuity, and the affirmation that little beings can achieve great things. The show includes “The Lion and the Mouse,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Owl and the Grasshopper,” “The Fox and the Crow,” “The Crow and the Pitcher,” and “The Stork and the Fox.”
