Puppets on Camera Workshop

Performing puppets for recorded media requires a unique variety of skills.

Lisa Sturz, Emmy award-winning Artistic Director of Red Herring Puppets, has decades of experience performing puppets on camera and training others to succeed. Her TV/film credits include Elmo in Grouchland, Muppets from Space,Howard the Duck, the Flintstones, Ninja Turtles 3, RoboCop2, Gremlins 2, Murphy Brown, PuzzlePlace, Batman Returns and several commercials and eCards.

Session One: Participants will use a video monitor to practice finding the center of frame, proper lip sync, eye focus, and keeping a consistent height. We will work with breath, posture, hand movements and vocal characterization to convey emotion.

Session Two: We will refine the skills introduced in Part One, add scene work, group improvisations, and choreograph a musical number.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own hand and rod (Muppet style) puppet or borrow one of several that will be provided.

COST: $150 for each three-hour session or $250 for both.
