Join us for a journey through theater history and the evolution of the dramatic arts!
Travel through time this summer from the flickering torches of the ancient Greek amphitheatres to the gaslamps of vaudeville to the bright lights of Broadway! We're traversing thousands of years of tradition and change, exploring how acting, plays, stage arts, and theaters themselves have evolved and grown. This camp will explore drama from ancient Greece, medieval festivals, commedia dell'arte, Elizabethan, Restoration, and contemporary eras! Join The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre for the first session of our 2025 Scamp Camp: Acting Through the Ages!
The Scoundrel & Scamp's four-week youth theatre camp during the month of June is designed to be accessible as either a modular two-week session or a month-long deep dive into stories, tales, and imagination. Scamps can easily participate in one or both sessions!
Session 2: Scamps on the Silver Screen: Acting and the Art of Silent Films is in partnership with The Fox Tucson Theatre!
The first session will culminate in an evening showcase of devised and scripted scenes, the second session in a camper-created silent film, and we’ll close out the month with a “cast party” for all campers and their families.
Skills students will develop during this camp:
Ensemble building and nurturing
Movement and gesture
Performance skills, including vocal skills and physical presence
Collaborative storytelling
Observation and listening
An understanding of theatre terms and technologies
Reading comprehension and literary analysis
Understanding of historical and contemporary contexts for stories, including fairy tales and the Brothers Grimm
Communication

Who: Youth aged 8-18 (rising third through twelfth grades)
When: Scamp Camp Session 1 runs daily Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, June 2 - 13, 2025
Session 2 runs June 16 - 27
Cost: $595 for the session

Where: The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre in the Historic Y (738 N. 5th Ave., Ste. 131, Tucson, AZ, 85705)
Instructors: Acting Through the Ages will be led by Director of Education Betsy Labiner, Resident Teaching Artist Zachary Austin, and Resident Production Manager Annika Maher. All camp staff have educator fingerprint clearance cards from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations are subject to a $100 non-refundable administrative fee. Up until two weeks prior to the session’s start date, cancellations can receive a full refund minus the administrative fee. At two weeks prior to the session start date, cancellations can receive a 50% refund. At one week prior to the session start date and during the camp, there are no refunds, including for days missed due to illness or absence. If the theatre cancels a session, a full refund will be provided.
