In a dystopian world where language is rationed to only 1,000 approved words, Alli and her son Orhan live a normal life; going to school, owning and operating a bakery. Life is good until the words "I think Isee a city that rues words" are plastered on a wall over the bakery. The City begins a man-hunt for the perpetrator. It is then that our hero, Orhan, discovers that even a single word can change the world.

Join the S&S for this timely tale by the beloved storyteller, Finegan Kruckemeyer, author of This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries and This Girl Does Nothing and You and Me and the Space Between.

Join us for three very different shows featuring the hilarious Wolfe Bowart and Xochitl Martinez plus special guests - catch one or see all three in our Season 9 series. Wolfe Bowart brings us another enchanting theatre creation, the creator and actor behind such zany, magical works as Cloud Soup, LaLaLuna, OAF, and One Twig at a Time. Enjoyed by audiences the world over, Wolfe’s shows are theatrical experiences that evoke thought, wonder, and laughter — a joyful celebration of oddity, creating dreamlike sequences that inspire delight.

Barking Mouse: September 20, 2024
Chupacabra: February 7, 2025

We’re offering matinees of two bilingual puppet shows: The Barking Mouse & the Blue Frog in the fall, and The Friendly Chupacabra in the spring.

These puppet shows are presented in a mixture of English and Spanish, celebrating Latin American and Caribbean cultures and the importance of welcoming and learning from each other. They both feature original music by Diana Olivares and Salma Diaz, from Las Azaleas, an all-girl mariachi band based in Tucson.

The Barking Mouse wittily champions the value of learning a second language. The Blue Frog is the Mayan version of the Legend of Chocolate. It’s a double feature!

The tale of The Friendly Chupacabra unfolds in Puerto Rico, where the strange and fierce Chupacabra elicits fear and wonder — until a brave girl, Ana, and her goat tame the beast with friendship.

Recommended for ages 4+.
Runtime: Under 60 minutes.
