An Antarctic gender non-conforming creation myth that tells the stories of three scientists amidst a melting tundra, FROZEN FLUID is a meditative exploration of gender, faith, and climate change.

About the Playwright

Fly Jamerson

Fly (they/them) is a playwright whose work has been developed at theatres and arts-based institutions around the country, including Women’s Theatre Festival (Raleigh), Woven Theatre (Nashville), Spooky Action Theater (Washington, D.C.), and The Battery Factory (Milwaukee), among others. Fly is currently a resident playwright at Great Plains Theatre Commons.

Fly currently lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they have taught Theatre History and Performance Studies at Doane University and the University of Nebraska’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. Fly has an MFA in Theatre Arts from the University of Arizona. Fly is so thankful to collaborate with director Claire Mannle and whole team at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre again after serving as the dramaturg on Eurydice in 2018.

Fly is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, as well as Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA). Fly is also the recipient of a New Now Commission from Lauren Gunderson and a grant from the Network of Ensemble Theatres, which they are using to continue developing new and experimental theatre that centers TGNC (Trans and Gender Non-Conforming) stories and performers.

Bios

Claire Marie Mannle

Claire (Director) is an actor, writer and director, At The Scoundrel & Scamp she directed Eurydice and Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play, The Thanksgiving Play, The Crack: Among Wild Animals and performed in The Yellow Wallpaper and Every Brilliant Thing. Outside of the S&S her recent directing work includes The Wolves at Arizona Repertory Theater, an adaptation of Euripides’ The Bacchae (SITI Company’s Skidmore Intensive) and Nor Any Drop to Drink, a devised play about water issues in the Southwest (UA Studio Series). As an actor, she has performed around town in King Lear, The Grapes of Wrath, Macbeth, and The White Snake at The Rogue Theatre and in The Tempest andThe Comedy of Errors for Arizona Repertory Theatre. She is an Instructor for the School of Theatre, Film, and Television at The University of Arizona. A New York City native raised in the Midwest, she came to Tucson via Los Angeles where she worked with The Grand Guignolers, Cornerstone Theater Company, A Noise Within, The Antaeus Academy, and SITI Company. She has her MFA from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and her BA from Smith College.

Em Bowen

Em (Tay) is an writer, storyteller, and stand-up comedian who is pursuing a Ph.D. in education at the University of Arizona in their free time. Though they've spent time on comedy stages from Portland to Bisbee, this is their first official involvement in a theater production. They are the former Executive Director of the Tucson Poetry Festival and earned their MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Goddard College. Pre-COVID they curated and hosted Tucson's only intentionally "punch-up" and intersectionally feminist comedy show, "The Liberal Agenda," and have every intention of taking up that work when it's safe to meet with friends again.

Steve McKee

Steve (Herman) is excited to be making his Scoundrel and Scamp debut with this performance.  Steve has worked with many local theatre companies including The Rogue Theatre, Live Theatre Workshop, Arizona Rose Theatre and The Gaslight Theatre.  Favorite roles include Alan in God of Carnage and Roger Debris in The Producers.  Thanks for supporting the arts and enjoy the show!!

Emily Fuchs

Emily (Terra) graduated from Pima Community College in 2017 with an Associate of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance, and Graduated from the University of Arizona in December of 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies. She has participated in two previous Scoundrel and Scamp productions, The Trial of John Brown (Lizzie Harding), and Blood Wedding (A Girl/Wedding Guest). As a dramaturg, she has assisted in Arizona Repertory Theatre’s Top Girls and The Wolves, as well as Winding Road's production of Good People. Fuchs is a current graduate student in the University of Arizona School of Journalism.

Zoe Keeter

Zoe (Stage Directions) is a senior at the University of Arizona and this is her debut at Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre! She has previously played such roles as Dennis (Denise) in the musical Rock of Ages, Mama in I Remember Mama, and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. She is incredibly excited for you to experience this groundbreaking new work by the amazing Fly Jamerson! She would like to thank her family and her partner Henry for all their support throughout the process. Enjoy Frozen Fluid!

Tiffer Hill

Tiffer (Sound Design and Stage Manager) is proud to be in his fourth season at Scoundrel & Scamp. After a brief stint as a vocal performance major at the University of Arizona, he began working as a stagehand at the Gaslight Theatre starting in 2012. He continued working there full-time for the next five and a half years at the pace of at least eight shows a week, eventually stage managing 21 productions including favorites such as Arizona Smith and the Relic of Doom, Spider-Guy, and Ghostblasters!

Favorites from S&S’s past seasons include Mr Burns: a post-electric play, Lovers, and Oaf. Tiffer also served as lighting designer for the 2018 Tucson Fringe Festival and the 2018 and 2019 Bennett TheatreLab Festival of Plays. He is also excited for the opportunity to broaden his creative protfolio this season with sound design credits for Herman: The Naturalist and the upcoming Cloud Tectonics.

Raulie Martinez

Raulie (Video Design) is excited to be returning to The Scoundrel & Scamp for his fourth season. He studied theatre production & lighting design for four years at the University of Arizona. Past designs have included Cloud Soup; This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing; and Lovers: Part One at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre; Die Fleidermaus and The Magic Flute with The UA Opera Theatre; The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan with CYT Tucson; and Oklahoma! as well as Boieng Boeing with Arizona Repertory Theatre.

Marina Nelson

Marina (Video Design) is a recent University of Arizona graduate and this is her first work with The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre. She earned her BA in Theatre Arts and Communication. Since graduation she has sought out different ways to use her skills as a young emerging artist. She enjoys acting and doing dramaturgy. However, she has branched out of her typical skill set for this production of Frozen Fluid to work on visual elements alongside Raulie Martinez.
